The weirdest things can make FSX crash, only thing to do when you have problems like this is strip it all the way back to vanilla - even if you know your add ons are working perfectly (they might not be) - and add things back one at a time. (I use plockton as my 'home' airport because it's a very basic strip, has no detailed scenery anywhere near it and it's miles away from anywhere that does, choose another out of the way airstrip if you don't like haggis and/or bagpipes) Take off, do a circuit, touch and go, do another circuit then land.
